Fear and Loathing at Leisure World
My mother lives in a retirement community in a conservative (hate using that word to describe a group of people who did what they did to the Federal deficit but it lets you know who I’m talking about) part of Southern California. Although the area is conservative my mother is politically just right of Karl Marx and left of Black Panthers.
In this predominantly white village of the aged, they have more or less independent infrastructure from the city of Seal Beach where it’s located. This walled-off micro-community was perfect during COVID, except for the “Patriots” who refused to wear masks etc. I call it a “micro-community” even though it has roughly 7,000 people in it. The avg “US TOWN” has 6,200 residents.
They have their own Olympic pool, golf course, security, administration, government, hospital, and post office among other things. So it’s not Federal land, but it has the autonomy to it that I would consider similar to an Indian Reservation. For those who don’t know, Reservations have extreme independence from the laws of the city, state, and Federal government that they are physically situated in. Tribal law is supposed to be of equal importance. Almost all high-functioning reservations (high-functioning — have a casino) have the same level of infrastructure as my mother’s village and the police are often “unwelcome”. This can be awkward as they have casinos which are greater crime generators than bingo night or 7am pool jazzercise.
My mother’s village has very little crime, but like any place where you have a few 1,000 white people you have racist/bigots. Old school bigots one might say. Other than Caucasians there are a few Asians (never seen an African American, but my mother says there are a few) of differing heritage. One of her favorite activities is going to a park area with her dog and watch these older (I really don’t need to say that as everyone there is old) Chinese men who play GO every day.
And what do bigots like to do? They like to hate.
In late Feb, an 83-year-old long-time resident passed away leaving his wife and two daughters. On the heels of Byong Choi’s death, the Atlanta shooting happened. Also, you may have heard a certain asshole who lost the popular vote in 2016 blame the Chinese for everything from COVID to gouging his daughter Ivanka when she filed for and was granted 18 patents.

On Monday, March 22nd the wife of the recently departed received a letter. An anonymous letter.
“Now that Byong is gone makes it one less Asian to put up with in Leisure World,” said the letter, written in cursive on yellow notebook paper. “You frickin Asians are taking over our American community!”
Like how Canada isolated the Proud Boys as terrorists, I think my mother should be vocal about the budding GREY BOYS problem at Leisure World in Seal Beach, CA. I’m not saying she should buy an ANTIFA outfit and put a couple of roles of nickles in a sock and “Kick-Ass”, but maybe a op-ed in the Geezer Gazette or something.
The guy probably raised 2 racist kids, who then raised 3 more little Nazi grandkids and have perpetuated a cycle of ignorance and stupidity. Or his kids are super embarrassed about dad’s racism, but he never got over “Nam” and he can’t tell the difference between Koreans and Vietnamese.
Most likely he’s a FOX news-watching, Trump supporter, liberty-seeking anachronism. It’s important Ben Shapiro, Rebekah Mercer, and the rest of their team need to see it happen. Because if you have no consequences, there is no reason not to do bad things.
