I don't know if it was Oscar worthy, (personally I don't respect the Oscar's much anymore) but check out OCCULUS. Mike Flanagan does things that I've only seen das well in the Shinning. Which he later remade, but this was early. 3rd act is as good as any horror film in the last 20 years.
